The Art of Receiving

ree

Here we are in this powerful in-between time, at the peak of Autumn, preparing for the profound transformation that winter brings. I feel a strong urge to explore the deeper layers of my inner world, much like trees shedding their leaves to make space for renewal.

As the world around us shifts, I invite you to join me in embracing the concept of receiving—not as a passive act, but as a conscious, brave openness to possibilities. By staying receptive to new and different things, we create the space for true growth and fulfillment.

Over time, I’ve learned that our capacity to give freely is directly connected to our willingness—and our sense of worthiness—to receive. Giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin, each supporting the other when we're in balance. But what does it really mean to receive, and what prevents us?

Often, it’s deeply ingrained beliefs of not being good enough or worthy enough, or the idea that others’ needs must always come before our own. Layer after layer, these inherited beliefs, imprints, patterns, and habitual ways quietly influence how we show up for ourselves and others. But what if we challenged these old stories? What if we bravely claimed our right to receive and allowed all of life to flow freely throughout our days? We might have started out with distorted ways of receiving love, touch, nourishment, and connection. This in turn sets up a separation from our original blueprint-Love.

Viewing ourselves through a kind, loving, compassionate lens is a beautiful starting point of connecting with our truest nature. It begins with recognizing what we are and what we are not. And what keeps us disconnected from our spirit, our body, and the Earth. In turn keeps us from our fully embodied Spirit in form, connecting us to all that we are and all that is.

The emotional and physical body guides us through these deeper imprints we carry. If our nervous system doesn't fully relax then we miss out on the deep stillness and harmony our internal terrain desires. This disruption often translates to our external world, like attracts like, or the Law of Attraction.

When we’re open to experiences of being acknowledged, or admired, our system recognizes its truth or its worth and naturally stays open and receptive. This leads to an upwelling response of gratitude, then another receives the same gift from a heart felt exchange, creating a mutual give and receive interchange.

Love is vast and expansive across many landscapes- mountains, forests and oceans, and the animal kingdom! It’s often easier to connect with and find nourishment in nature where we can be open and receptive to our own beauty, while immersed in natures beauty. Like, attracting like! Where do you feel most at home? Or feel safe and secure in your body?  Most often nature holds the key to anchoring us into this safety net, a net that is needed to release what isn’t truly yours.

Nature and animals were my saving grace as a child. Harvey, our half-sheepdog and 1/2 human-like companion, was always there for me. I can still touch into the sadness of when he passed. The natural world and the animal kingdom brought me nurturance then, and now. As a child I would often find myself whistling to the Bob Whites when down on Cape Cod, and they would respond back to me. I'd be chatting with them for hours—no words, no judgments—just pure magic and joy. It's when being immersed in the purest energy field we are effortlessly giving and receiving—it's one and the same. We are satiated from the inside and out.

If recognition, acceptance, or deep nurturance wasn't received or was absent in your childhood, parts of you might still seek it outside yourself or from others through a distorted lens. Your energy system may have openings that crave to be filled or entangled with aspects of others. The emotional terrain within our nervous system may discover that safety is inaccessible, and continue these habitual patterns that never truly find us at peace.

If any of this rings true for you, maybe begin working with the elements to start. Perhaps making a connection barefoot, sitting or lying upon the Earth. Allow her vibration to connect into your internal rhythm to begin attuning to the Earth’s healing frequencies. Then begin imagining those places within you that remain separated from the Earth and all her medicine. It is here you can begin releasing and reconnecting, into her system. A system that never wavers, and always present in an effortless exchange of giving and receiving love and compassion.

The Wood element is also an incredible way to access your natural way of being. Each tree’s root system weathers many a storm, never loosing its connection to the Earth. Similarly, if we stay rooted and grounded while in our bodies we begin to strengthen and align to our very own root system so we can move through life aligned within a strong resilient system.

I read about a woman who lost her spouse of 50 years. They had planted a tree when they married, and she tended to it after his passing. A few years later, she realized that the tree was caring for her, not the other way around to assist her in getting through her grief.

This unknown exchange assisted her in her emotional pain while staying connected to a spirit-filled space that let her find herself anew.  To live a fully embodied life, receiving nourishment from the natural world fills us with healing frequencies and negative ions, that continually strengthen, clear, and uplift our mind, body, and emotions.

“When we listen to the depths of our hearts, we awaken to our soul’s desire, break though our fears, and embrace the adventure of life.”- Llia Delio, The Not-Yet God

Much love and blessings to all
